    Federal Primers

What is the general feeling about Federal primers?
I know that most feel that CCI are the best. I have heard that Remington should be avoided.

I was driving out of Louisiana today and stopped in at Cabela's. CCI SR & SP were 39.99 per 500. Federal was 39.99 for 1000. I grabbed a box each of the Federal Small Rifle and Small Pistol. How bad did I mess up?

    Thanks!

I use federal in all of my precision loads. I use Remington in all of my hunting loads. I use cci in all of my AR loads. I don’t feel like you messed up.

I doubt you'll ever notice. The only difference I'm aware of is some primers have slightly harder cups than others. As far as standard SR or SP you're good to go.

I have been using Remington sp 5 ½ for a couple of years since I couldn’t get anything else. I just started using my third case of 5000. I have had no problems with them, not a single ftf or any other problem.

I have better luck with certain primers, in certain applications. That being said, I use CCI, Fed, Rem,Win. Never had any issue with any of them. I have rifle loads that shoot in the .2s, and .3s using Rem, CCI, Fed. Certain powders seem to appreciate one brand of primer over another.
It's good to have choices. Sometimes a simple primer switch can really dial a load in. Or spread it out.
